As far as being a record-breaking box office champ is concerned, it looks like the odds are already in The Hunger Games‘ favor.
Advanced tickets went on sale for the hotly anticipated release and already the film is showing impressive numbers a month before it even hits theaters. On Wednesday, the day advance tickets went on sale to the eager public, Fandango reported that The Hunger Games accounted for 83 percent of the site’s totals. In fact, sales were so high, the movie has already trumped another beloved adaptation: The Twilight Saga. The Hunger Games toppled
Eclipse for Fandango’s top first-day advanced ticket seller, previously set on May 14, 2010.

According to a statement from Fandango, not only does The Hunger Games already have hundreds of showtimes sold out across the country, but the Feb. 22 first-day ticket sales broke a record for their site. Rick Butler, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango, stated, “The Hunger Games is off to a fantastic start. Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticket sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”
Fandango’s Harry Medved concurs, “Even in the fact of big openers like Act of Valor and Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, the advance ticket sales for The Hunger Games  are still going strong. According to a Fandango poll, it’s the most anticipated new franchise of the year.”
The Hunger Games opens on March 23.
